For people visiting our website that are interested in joining SOTTS:
"SOTTS (Spouses Out To Their Spouses) is an Internet email list for gay men, bisexuals, and lesbians who are in a mixed orientation marriage or who are in the process of leaving a mixed orientation marriage and wish to keep the relationship positive. SOTTS is not moderated and membership is kept confidential."

Setting up your Topica account:
Do you have your account set up on Topica? No? Well, you will need an account with Topica to manage some aspects of this list, which I'll mention later. It's really very easy to get your account. Start by going to http://www.topica.com/register. Then simply fill out the information they have asked for and follow the steps as they give them to you.
IMPORTANT: this account MUST use the same email address that you use for SOTTS
To Log-in to your Topica account:
Remember, you must set-up your account before you can log into it
Once you have your account setup with Topica, go to their homepage at http://www.topica.com/. Click on "login" in the upper right-hand corner of the purple banner. This will take you to the login page. On the login page, enter the information requested (make sure you include the @ . portion of your email and remember Topica is case sensitive for both the email address and the password). When both the email address and password are entered, click on the "LogIn" button. If Topica is functioning
NOTE*** The following information applies ONLY to people who have received official notice from the SOTTS managers that they are subscribed to the list! Those who have not received official notice need to follow the "Subscribing to SOTTS" directions, complete the subscription process or continue waiting for manager approval.
If for some reason, you do not receive your "My Topica" page OR you are told you are not subscribed to SOTTS, try logging in again. If this still does not work, give Topica some time and try again. Usually, Topica posts a message if the site is having problems, but occasionally we are left in the dark as to why we cannot access our lists.
After a reasonable amount of time, if you are still told you are not subscribed to this list contact the list managers at mgrsotts@yahoo.com.
If you cannot log onto Topica, you need to email Topica at support@get.topica.com. Please do NOT email SOTTS nor or the list managers for this problem, there is nothing we can do to help.
One would think reading emails would be a simple task <G>. And it is. With Topica you have three methods available for reading the list emails. First, the messages can be sent directly to your private email account from Topica. Second, Topica produces a digest email each day of all the emails sent to SOTTS that day. And third, you can read them on-line by accessing the list archive in your Topica account.
Reading email via your private email account:
When you are subscribed, your account is automatically set to receive the list in "Messages" form. Which means, as Topica receives an email it sends a copy to your private account (this is very fast when Topica is functioning correctly).
Digest, as mentioned above, is ONE email containing ALL the emails posted to SOTTS in a 24-hour "day". This email is sent to your private email account at the end of that "day".
To read emails for either of these delivery methods, follow the procedures described by your email client or the email software on your computer.
Reading email via your Topica Account:
Obviously, the first thing you need to do is to Log-in to your Topica account. Once in your account, to read the emails in a particular list, click on the blue # Msgs beside the name of the list (note the # will be a number not the symbol, example 3 msgs <g>). The archive for that list should appear with the most recent posts at the bottom of the page. Click the subject (the part of the post listed in blue) of the post you want to read and it will open that post.
You can now read other that precede or follow the message by clicking "Previous Message" or "Next Message", respectively, found in the yellow bar at the top of the screen.
You can read SOTTS emails from your Topica account even if you are receiving the messages directly to your private email or if you are receiving the digest for the list. However, you can NOT read the emails in "Messages" AND "Digest" form at the same time.
Setting email delivery method: Using emails to change your "Delivery Method": To receive the list emails in "Messages" or "Digest" form you can use the handy email process for changing delivery methods: If you have set your account to "Digest" or "Web Only – No Email" and wish to reset it to "Messages" send a blank email to: sotts-request-messages@topica.com. If you would prefer to read the list from the digest, send a blank email to: sotts-request-digest@topica.com. ****NOTE the requests for these MUST come from the email account subscribed to SOTTS! Using your Topica account to change your "Delivery Method": If you don't want any emails coming to your personal account then you need to set your "Delivery Method" to "Web Only – No Email". Unfortunately, there is no email way to do this, so this delivery method must be selected while logged-in to your Topica Account. Go to your "My Topica" page (the one that lists all the lists you are subbed to). In the pull-down box at the far right of the list information, select "Web Only – No Email". You can also use this method to select "Messages" and "Digest" delivery methods, as well as to unsubscribe from the list.
If you do not wish to unsubscribe from the list, but do not want to receive emails for a time, you need to use the "Web Only – No Email" Delivery method discussed directly above.
Again, you have three methods to chose from <G>!
Sending directly from your account to SOTTS:
First and the simplest, you can send messages to the e-mail address above (sotts@topica.com) from your own email account. The emails MUST come from the email account subscribed to the list!
Posting from your Topica Account:
Second, you can post through your account on topica. To do this, you log-in to your topica account. Then, go to the "my topica" area of your account. In the upper right corner there is a yellowish "Post" button. Click on this button and follow the directions topica gives you to post a message to the list. You can also find the "Post" button on the list archive pages and on the individual message pages (on the individual message pages you will also find "forward" and "reply" buttons). Note: If you are in a Topica account that is NOT showing SOTTS as a subscribed list, you cannot post from that account!
Replying to Sender:
Third, you can post a message by "replying to sender" to a post you have received from the list. If you choose to post using this method, please make sure your post is related to what is in the subject line. If it isn't, you can change the subject title by clicking in the subject box.
***NOTE: if you are replying to an email in a digest, the subject of that email will NOT appear in the subject header. The name of the digest will appear instead. PLEASE change the subject to fit the email you are actually responding to in the digest!
Also, use the delete key generously when using the "reply" button. Only include the part of the original post that is relevant to your post not the entire previous post. Occasionally, members will make this request on the list if we have an excessive amount of unedited replies and I will also address the issue on the list if it becomes burdensome.
***NOTE: this is the list guideline for copying email in your posts whether by replying or by cutting and pasting.
