ACRONYMS USED ON THE LIST
Those unique to "the community":
- g/b/l/t: a common abbreviation used for gay/bi/lesbian/transsexual
- tgt: one most of us dislike but we haven't developed anything better, means "the gay thing"
- tbt: "the bi thing"
- tgo: "the gay one"
- tso: "the straight one"
- gso: "gay significant other"
- gf: "girlfriend"
- bf: "boyfriend"
- f2f: "face-to-face" (sometimes f/f is used but f/f has a second meaning so look at the context)
- f/f: "female/female" – usually used in denoting a couple or type of relationship
- m/m: "male/male" – follows same usage as f/f
- mo: "mixed orientation"
- mor: showing up on SSML and starting to bleed to here "mixed orientation relationship"
- mom: on a rare instance is used for "mixed orientation marriage"
- om: "open marriage"
Ones used almost everywhere on the net now:
- lol: "laughing out loud"
- rofl: "rolling on floor laughing"
- imho: "in my humble opinion"
- imnsho: "in my not so humble opinion"
- btw: "by the way"
- fwiw: "for what it's worth"
- ymmv: "your mileage may vary" – means this works for me but it might be different for you
- btdt: "been there, done that"
And the ever loveable emoticons:
- :-): "smile"
- :-( or <f> : "frown"
- ;-) : "wink"
- :-D: "big smile"
- <g> : "grin"
- <eg> : "evil grin"
- <weg> : "wicked evil grin"
